About our Client
Our client is an independent provider of both traditional and IP based broadcast systems.
The client has purchased a new larger premise and will consolidate two sites into one.
The client has a mixture of technologies across its two current sites, with no resilience and no next-generation security. The budget is also limited, so the challenge is to buy some new equipment and make the most out of the existing equipment.
Initially, they wanted to upgrade a firewall at one of their sites. We then discovered they planned to move into a bigger building and move two sites into one. Perfect!
In the first instance, we advised that they purchase a FortiGate next-generation firewall to update the current solution. This will then allow us to create a resilient pairing of firewalls in the new building when they do move.
Because we completely endorse the benefits of highly available pairs, we suggested a similar solution for their Windows servers. They were using some modern HP servers but had a mixture of virtual and physical servers with apps and data spread across local disks.
Introducing just one additional server, we were able to create a new VMWare cluster and add existing servers later. Upon adding some centralised storage and laying the foundations of a fast and resilient server platform, we would be able to easily migrate all existing servers later.
All three sites could be connected over a multi-site VPN (FortiGate happily works with existing Cisco firewall) and traffic routed between sites. This allowed the client to migrate either existing virtual servers or physical servers over to the new VMWare cluster while providing seamless access to the servers/data at the new site.
The customer had a smooth migration to the new premises. They now have a resilient pair of FortiGate firewalls, a new VMWare cluster, and centralised storage. Not only were move costs kept to a minimum by utilising as much of the existing technology as possible, but we also transformed their infrastructure into a resilient, supportable and faster platform.
